KARACHI: A young taxi driver was shot dead by robbers near Qayyumabad on Tuesday, police and rescue services officials said.

Baloch Colony SHO Shamshad Husain Chachar said that Waliullah Rao, 25, a ride-hailing service driver, was shot and killed by robbers when he put up resistance near Iqra University, Defence View.

The police said he parked his taxi on the roadside after it developed some fault. In the meantime, two muggers riding a motorcycle emerged there, held him at gunpoint and snatched his cell phone. As he put up resistance, the robbers shot him and fled.

He sustained critical bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The victim was a resident of the Sachal area.
