KARACHI: A judicial magistrate remanded a YouTuber in the custody of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in a defamation case registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (Peca).

The agency arrested YouTuber Mudasir Khan from Islamabad on January 22 and after obtaining transit remand from the concerned court, the officials brought him before the judicial magistrate (South) on Jan 24 and sought his physical custody for interrogation.

The YouTuber was booked on the complaint of Nawabzadi Alia Dilawar Khanji for allegedly committing offences under Sections 20 (offences against dignity of a natural person), 21-D (offences against modesty of a natural person and minor) and 26-A (punishment for false and fake information) of Peca.

According to the FIR, the complainant said that YouTuber “repeatedly disseminated lies and propaganda allegedly provided by Ali Murtaza Khanji and his associates”.

She further alleged that Mudasir grossly violated ethical standards and basic human decency by spreading “filth defamation and constituted a serious violation of the modesty, privacy and dignity of the complainant and her family”.

The NCCIA stated that a vlog title “The Legend” uploaded on YouTube was technically analysed during the initial probe, which revealed that Mudasir had “used derogatory remarks and indulged in character assassination of the complainant, Nawabzadi Alia Dilawar Khanji, and the family of the Nawab of Junagadh”.

Investigating officer Ameer Ali Khoso informed the judicial magistrate (South) that the suspect was apprehended from the capital city and later his transit remand was obtained from a local court in Islamabad.
