Second phase starts

LAHORE, June 12: Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer said on Monday that due to the oppressive weather the national training camp schedule would be held at different times. The coach, while talking to reporters on the first day of the second phase of the training camp, specified that the players were training under extreme conditions since May 25 (with a six-day break from June 6) and it was necessary to protect them from getting heatstroke.

Except for fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Rana Navedul Hasan, the remaining England-bound 14 players have joined the camp.

Both Asif and Naved are likely to join the camp from Tuesday after appearing in a few English county matches.

Shahid Afridi, who was playing for Ireland, joined the camp on Monday.

Jonty Rhodes, the former South African cricketer, also joined the camp as fielding coach for a two-week period.

Rhodes remarked that he received positive response from the players and pointed out that Afridi and Younis Khan were keen on fielding and didn’t hesitate to ask questions on the topic.

He also praised Umar Gul and Mohammad Sami.

Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq reported at the camp but did not practice because of fever.
