SWAT: A child was killed and another injured after an old hand grenade exploded in the Oesha area of Matta tehsil here on Saturday.

Police said the children were playing near their house when one of them accidentally stepped on a grenade buried in the ground, triggering the blast.

As a result, eight-year-old Abdul Hadi died on the spot, while five-year-old Madiha sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

In another incident, a man was killed and six others were injured when a vehicle plunged into a ravine in the Madyan area of Kalam.

According to police, a group of friends from Mingora was on a recreational trip to Mahodand when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a ravine.

Waris, 34, died on the spot, while six others sustained injuries, who were shifted to a hospital.
