RAWALPINDI: Five officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have been awarded punishments for violations of discipline, corruption and abuse of authority, ranging from warnings to dismissal from service.

Two officials were issued warnings for absence from duty and training courses, while three others, including two lady constables, were dismissed from service.

An FIA spokesman said the accountability process was underway under the supervision of the FIA director general, with an orderly room organised at FIA headquarters. He said departmental action was taken against officials involved in violations of discipline, corruption and abuse of authority, adding that five officials were penalised with punishments ranging from warnings to dismissal.

According to the spokesman, two officials were issued warnings for absence from duty and training courses, while Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Noman Khalid was dismissed from service for securing admission to study abroad without obtaining a no-objection certificate (NOC).

He said lady Constable Sajida Parveen was dismissed from service for absenteeism, while Bookbinder Amber Jabeen was dismissed for exceeding her authority and accepting bribes.

Likewise, Deputy Messenger Kashif Hameed was dismissed from service for absenteeism, while Constable Obaid Ibrahim was sentenced to two years’ suspension for harassing a citizen.

Staff car driver Naveed Qamar was issued a final warning for failing to report for duty after the expiry of his leave, while Constable Jamal Mohiuddin was issued a warning for not joining a training course on time.

Director General FIA Riffat Mukhtar Raja said the purpose of departmental accountability was to ensure strict adherence to legal and professional standards, adding that any kind of corruption or misuse of power would not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, a high-level European Union delegation to Pakistan, including the FRONTEX liaison officer to Pakistan, a representative from the Hungarian Embassy, and a representative from the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), visited Sialkot International Airport.

The FIA spokesman said the delegation was given a comprehensive briefing on the working, performance and achievements of FIA Immigration at Sialkot airport, with particular emphasis on progress made over the past five months.

The briefing focused on measures taken to prevent irregular migration, including the effective implementation of risk indicators, enhanced profiling mechanisms and optimal utilisation of the Second Line Border Control Office.

The delegation was also apprised of pre-departure facilitation mechanisms established at both the zonal level and the airport, aimed at strengthening border management, improving operational efficiency and ensuring a passenger-friendly environment.
