MOHMAND: A decades-old land dispute in the border area of Baizai Kodakhel, Mohmand tribal district, was resolved peacefully through a traditional jirga.

The land dispute has claimed four lives, including that of a woman, and caused deep divisions between two local families. The jirga was held at the hujra of Uzbek Kor Tariq Khan, under the leadership of Nawabzada Malik Aimal Khan.

One of the parties was represented by Malik Dilfaraz and Noor Shahad while the other was represented by Malik Dawood and Manzoor.

In the presence of thousands of people, the parties swore on the Holy Quran, forgave each other and pledged to live together in peace and brotherhood.

Addressing the gathering, Malik Aimal Khan expressed gratitude to both the parties for choosing forgiveness for the sake of Allah’s pleasure. He urged tribal elders to continue playing their role in resolving disputes across Mohmand and other tribal areas without any personal interest.

The jirga was attended by elders from Baizai and Khawezai tribes including Malik Sultan Atmarkhel, Mirwais Khan Mohmand, Malik Firdous, Malik Ajmal, Malik Gul Mohammad Khawezai, Malik Saeed Mohammad Atmarkhel, Malik Hayat Jan Atmarkhel, Malik Ahmad Jan Kodakhel and Malik Noorullah.

Religious scholars, local elders and a large number of residents of the area also attended the jirga.
