SWABI: The provincial government and the district administration should take steps to promote kabaddi and other regional sports so that the youth could participate in healthy activities.
The demand was made by the people, who gathered on Saturday to witness a kabaddi tournament in Jalsai village of Chota Lahor tehsil.
The spectators included over 80 per cent youngsters drawn from various areas, who supported their teams while praising the skills and power of the players.
Abdul Karim, former adviser to chief minister and incumbent MPA from the area, said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government was committed to providing adequate sport facilities to citizens, especially the youth.
“Regional sports and cultures are alive in Swabi, where various sports activities are held throughout the year, and the district administration has been directed to provide more and more entertainment opportunities to people,” he said.
The organisers said that kabaddi teams from across the district and other regions were participating in the tournament with contests beginning in the afternoon and continuing till late night.
kabaddi players said they enjoyed the game and always eagerly waited for the winter to participate in different tournaments.
BAR GETS CHEQUE: Federal minister and PML-N provincial president Eng Amir Maqam handed over a cheque of Rs2 million to the district bar association, according to a press release issued here on Saturday.
Speaking at a gathering on the occasion, the minister said that the federal government was working to strengthen the relations between the bench and the bar and has taken various meaningful steps in that connection.
Bar president Tayyab Zaman Advocate, general secretary Safdar Zeb Advocate, joint secretary Adnan Haider Yousafzai Advocate, finance secretary Daulat Khan Advocate and others received the cheque from the federal minister in the presence of coordinator of the prime minister for youth affairs in KP, Babar Saleem.
District president Muslim League Lawyers’ Forum Daniyal Khan Advocate and general secretary Asfandyar Khan Advocate were also present.
