KARACHI: Shumaila Imran, widow of slain Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Dr Imran Farooq, was laid to rest in a local graveyard on Saturday.

MQM factions said her coffin arrived at Karachi airport early in the morning from London. The body was supposed to reach Karachi on Friday, but due to some issues the cargo was delayed in Istanbul, they added.

Her two sons, family members, leaders of the MQM-Pakistan and MQM-London and a large number of people offered the Namaz-i-Janaza held at Jama Masjid Rehmania, Tariq Road, after Zuhar prayer.

Last week, Shumaila Imran passed away in London after a prolonged illness. Her funeral prayer was offered at a London mosque on Dec 24, attended by MQM founder Altaf Hussain, a large number of party workers, and her two sons.

Later, the MQM-L made arrangement to despatch her body to Karachi for burial in accordance with her last will.
