KARACHI, June 9: The Sindh government will spend Rs 12 billion on the lining of 514 canals and distributaries in the province to save irrigation water.

This was stated by Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim while presiding over a meeting of the Irrigation Department at Chief Minister’s House here Friday.

He said that the roads along with these canals will also be repaired under the project to provide a better road access to the people in rural areas.

Meanwhile, the chief minister has taken strong exception to a report of handing over five girls for their engagement as penalty in Jacobabad and summoned the persons concerned to Chief Minister’s House.

Arbab Rahim decided to personally listen to the viewpoint of both groups separately at the CM’s House. One group includes Yar Ali Banglani, Habibullah Banglani while second group includes Qamaruddin Banglani. The arbitrators in the matter are Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani MNA, Ghulam Akbar Banglani, Taluka Nazim Thul Mian Abdul Khaliq Samejo and Hafiz Jalil Bijarani.
