MANSEHRA: The police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a man and his fiancee in connection with the killing of a rickshaw driver in Oghi earlier this year, allegedly over an honour-related dispute.

“This was a blind murder, but scientific investigation led to the arrest of the suspects,” SP Zahidur Rehman told a press conference in Oghi.

Flanked by DSP Khan Afsar, SHO Oghi Malik Asif and investigation officer Waris Khan, the SP said unidentified assailants had reportedly opened fire on a tri-wheeler in the Karori area, leaving its driver critically injured. He later succumbed to his injuries at a health facility.

“This blind murder was a test case for the police. We constituted a special investigation team which collected mobile phone data of the deceased, leading to the arrest of the man and his fiancee,” Mr Rehman said.

Giving details of the case, he said the arrested woman had been in contact with the deceased, which allegedly enraged her fiance. “The victim was on his way to meet the woman on her call when the assailant opened fire on his vehicle, killing him,” the SP said.
