LAHORE, June 7: The Jamaat-e-Islami fears that polls under President Gen Pervez Musharraf would not be free and fair, and taking part in such an exercise would be futile, but the final decision in this regard would be taken by the MMA.

Talking to journalists after a meeting of the party’s central working council, its Aamir Qazi Hussain Ahmad said the JI was totally convinced about the futility of taking part in elections under Gen Pervez Musharraf. But, being part of an alliance, it would respect the collective decision, he added.

Gen Musharraf would ensure victory of PML-Q, come what may, he alleged and added: “The MMA was organising people across the country to eliminate dictatorship of Pervez Musharraf, and soon it would also be able to abolish capitalism and feudalism, restore the 73’ Constitution and control price hike.”

He said the MMA supreme council had taken the decision of launching an anti-government movement and Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced it. The alliance had the capacity and popular support to launch such a movement and remove the president, he claimed.
