KARACHI, June 6: A draft budget of Rs700.690 million was presented at the council meeting of the Saddar Town for the fiscal year 2006-07. The meeting was presided over by Convener and Naib Nazim of the town Nasir Tamoori on Tuesday.

An amount of Rs212.900 million has been allocated for various development projects, while Rs301.525 million have been proposed for payment of salaries and allowances to the town employees.

Tamoori said the Saddar Town was the most important town of the city, adding that every effort would be made to ensure provision of maximum civic facilities to its residents.

He said that while preparing the draft budget, it had been taken into consideration that development works in progress should be expeditiously completed.

Landhi town: The sanitation staff of Landhi Town on Tuesday recovered a number of sand-filled bags and other things from sewerage lines due to which sewage overflowed and inundated a vast area of Moeenabad and Future colony.

The sewage was seen gushing out and within no time a vast area of both said localities in UC-4 of the town turned into sewage ponds. The filthy water also started flowing into houses.

The town administration rushed its sanitation staff to these areas who found sand-filled bangs and other things that had choked the sewerage lines.

Town Nazim Muhammad Ismail Qureshi, who visited the area, said it could be a subversive activity and he would conduct a thorough inquiry.

GULBERG TOWN: The Nazim of Gulberg Town, Syed Maood Ahmed, has said that efforts were under way to solve the housing problems of the town’s employees by launching a housing scheme for them.

He was speaking at the distribution of loans among 38 lucky employees through balloting for the purchase of motorcycles and land.

He said the present leadership was taking every step to provide all facilities to the employees, he said.

The meeting was largely attended by employees besides the Naib Nazim Sohail Ansar Zaidi and TMO Afaq Saeed.

The employees thanked the Town Nazim, Maood Ahmed, for taking steps for their welfare.

GULSHAN TOWN: The Nazim of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town, Wasay Jalil, on Tuesday inaugurated the construction work of Chandni Park in UC-2 of the town.

The project is worth Rs15.1 million and will be completed within three months.

The park will have a jogging track, swings, lights, toilets and an underground water tank to facilitate women and children.

The town’s Naib Nazim, Shoaib Akhtar, TMO Matanat Ali Khan, Shafiq-ur-Rehman and Mubeen Siddique were also present.—APP/PPI
