GUJRAT, June 5: Villagers claimed to have discovered remains of an ancient town and a graveyard near Kotla Qasim Khan village in Lalamusa. Reports said that some villagers of Kotla Qasim had been digging the land when they found a large number of old skeletons there.

Eye witnesses claimed that hundreds of skeletons were found lying in destroyed graves. The discovery was followed by excavation of a nine-yard long grave, they added.

They also claimed that remains of a destroyed town were also discovered in the area.

The burial style of the dead indicated that the destroyed town was inhabited by the Muslims, an eye witness claimed.

‘Suicide’: A proclaimed offender committed suicide during an encounter with the police while four of his accomplices were arrested near Shaheen Chowk on Sunday evening.

A police spokesman said five car riders broke a police barricade near Mungowal. The police chased the outlaws and aired a wireless message.

A police party, led by DPO Raja Munawwar Husain and the Civil Lines SHO, intercepted the outlaws near Shaheen Chowk, but they opened fire which was retaliated. The crossfire continued for one hour.

The police spokesman claimed that PO Irshad alias Shada of Gorali village committed suicide while his accomplices — Maqsood, Saqib, Shoaib and Fiaz — were arrested.

The police recovered two Kalashnikovs and two pistols from the site of the encounter.

The police claimed that Irshad was wanted by Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin police in a number of cases.
