KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that the government of Sindh has been doing a lot of good work for the promotion of tourism.

He was speaking at an awards ceremony for travel agency owners, tour operators, travelogue writers, and vloggers, organised by the monthly magazine Atraaf in collaboration with the Sindh Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Department and Travel Agents Association of Pakistan at a local hotel here on Tuesday.

He said that under the guidance of the Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, for whom he was filling in at the event, there has been a lot of good development work taking place at Gorakh Hill.

“So people who plan to visit Murree or Nathiagali can now think of heading to Gorakh Hill, too,” he said. “Moreover, there is a great setup at Keenjhar Lake and a great picnic spot at Hawkes Bay,” he added.

More places with tourism potential, according to the minister, include Sukkur Barrage and Khairpur, which also fall near Mohenjo Daro.

The minister also reminded the audience about the Sindh Desert Safari Train, which has received a good response and mentioned the many attractions in Tharparkar.

Finally, he said the Sindh government is there to facilitate both local and foreign tourists while also taking care of security. Earlier, the editor of Atraaf magazine, senior journalist, writer and poet Mahmood Shaam, said that Pakistan is lucky to be blessed with mountains, hills, rivers and a sea, along with so many other interesting destinations where a lot can be done to promote tourism.

“Our people should also develop the wanderlust to explore their beautiful country, and the media and travel agents should create features and packages to promote their culture,” he said.
