ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday sentenced a man to death twice for murdering former Attorney General Sardar Mohammad Khan, while acquitting a co-accused for lack of evidence.

ATC Judge Tahir Abbas SIpra announced the verdict, handing down two death sentences to convict Rohullah — one under the murder provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code and another under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs500,000 and ordered the convict to pay Rs500,000 as compensation to the heirs of the deceased.

The court acquitted co-accused Waqif Khan after concluding that the prosecution failed to establish his involvement in the crime.

Prosecutor Raja Naveed, who represented the state, informed the court that Rohullah had murdered former Attorney General Sardar Mohammad Khan in F-10 area within the jurisdiction of Shalimar police station in 2010. He added that the convict had escaped from police custody in 2013 during the course of the proceedings.

The prosecution told the court that police had also recovered the murder weapon from Rohullah.

Following the completion of arguments from both sides, the court convicted Rohullah on charges of murder and terrorism, concluding the nearly 14-year-old case.
