From Tutor to Suitor

Romaisa Khan was once a TikTok star and now she is a TV actor and celeb. During an interview, she revealed that, when she was 17, she used to tutor boys in class seven to save up for an iPhone. Years later, after she rose to fame, one of her former students reached out to her — not for lessons but for her hand in marriage, saying that he would send his mother to officially ask for the rishta. Romaisa K claims the whole incident made her smile and, of course, that she turned down the proposal. After all, not every lesson deserves extra credit!

Catch-22

Director Nadeem Baig attended the ongoing World Culture Festival in Karachi to take part in a discussion after the screening of his film Love Guru. During the chit chat he said that Pakistan should have its own streaming platform, aside from Netflix, from which Pakistani films can be promoted. Yes, Nadeem B, that’s a very good suggestion. However, the problem is, for that to happen, you have to have a decent number of good films being produced every year as well. And struggling platforms cry they don’t have enough good local film content. Catch-22.

Love Goes Down the Drain

Singer Katy Perry and actor Orlando Bloom’s break-up earlier this year in July created quite a stir in showbiz circles and among their fans. And now Perry has come out with a song called Bandaids; in its video, she can be seen doing the dishes and dropping a ring down the sink. The lyrics of the track begin with: “Hand to God I promise I tried/ There’s no stone left unturned/It’s not what you did, it’s what you didn’t/You were there but you weren’t…” Hmmm… perhaps the real question is, where exactly was he?

Chart Bot

Here we go. What we were waiting for, or in some cases dreading, has finally happened. On November 1, the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated song How Was I Supposed To Know? by AI-powered artist Xania Monet hit Billboard’s charts. Incidentally, Monet has been created by poet Telisha ‘Nikki’ Jones, who uses the AI music platform Suno. To be honest, it isn’t a bad track. In fact, it has a pretty decent melody and a slow, catchy rhythm. While Billboard has called the charting of the song “a potentially historic moment”, we think that it’s bad news for the scores of human singers who have potential.

No Kids, No Fun

Actor Timothée Chalamet is going out with socialite and businesswoman Kylie Jenner, who has two children from a previous relationship. During an interview, when the actor was asked about his opinion about having children, the 29-year-old said that procreation is the reason behind human existence. Although he has no clue where life will take him, becoming a father is definitely on his radar. He added that people who say that not having children has enabled them to do other things are “bleak”. Well, Timothée C, good luck. And just remember, there’s no hurry at your age. American kids referring to their fathers as their ‘old man’ is just a figure of speech.

Romance On the Cards

On his 60th birthday, Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) released a teaser for his forthcoming film King, slated to hit cinemas in the last quarter of 2026. To be honest, the teaser wasn’t exceptional in any way, though we hope the film turns out better. Given the fact that SRK’s recent successes have been action-packed projects, when a journo asked him about the prospects of romance in King, he replied, “Deepika Padukone is with me in the film. Love will definitely happen.” Well, not necessarily. She was in Pathaan, too, and that movie was hardly an epic romance, was it?
