SWABI: Police arrested a drug dealer, wanted in 14 cases, after an exchange of heavy fire here on Monday.
Proclaimed offender Nazali, a resident of Maneri Bala, suffered injuries in the encounter, according to District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmad.
He told media persons that Swabi police station received a tip-off that drug dealer Nazali was riding a motorcycle with Bakht Zameen, so a police team immediately got there.
The DPO said the accused fired at the police, leading to an exchange of fire, which left the accused injured.
The accused and his accomplice Bakht Zameen were arrested.
During the search, 750 grams of ice drug were recovered from the accused and 450 grams of ice drug and an unlicensed firearm from Bakht Zameen.
The police registered a case against the accused on the charges of drug trafficking, firing and assault on the police.
The accused was named in 14 cases of drug trafficking and robbery in the last six years across the district.
The DPO appreciated the timely and effective action of the police and said that drug dealers were the scourge of society, so a zero tolerance policy was being strictly implemented against them.
He said the police’s crackdown on drugs would continue with the people’s cooperation.
Meanwhile, a man from Sherdara village died from a bullet injury here on Monday, said Rescue 1122.
It identified the man as Saifullah Khan, 30, and shifted the body to the tehsil headquarters hospital for postmortem.
Also in the day, Mahaz Khan, a 26-year-old resident of Salim village, was injured by unidentified gunmen here.
He was taken to the district headquarters hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
His family said that they had no enmity and didn’t know who the accused were. Police registered an FIR and started investigation.
