RAWALPINDI: Instead of waiting for 42 days after the issuance of driving permits, motorcyclists are now being issued driving licences immediately.

However, the applicants will need to pass both a written and practical driving test the same day.

The initiative has been launched to facilitate motorcyclists to get their driving licences.

On the direction of DIG Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazir and Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam, relief is being provided to motorcycle riders in obtaining driving licences, said a police spokesman.

Last month, 20,500 driving licences were issued from 13 centres across the district.

Previously, there was a 42-day waiting period after getting a learner’s permit before the applicant could apply for a permanent driving licence.

Likewise, police mobile licensing vans are working to serve the public, and weekly schedules of mobile licensing vans have been issued for citizens belonging to far-flung areas.

According to the in-charge Driving Licence Branch Inspector Imtiaz Khan, mobile police vans will provide licensing facilities at Sukho Mor stop and Government Boys College Kallar Syedan on Tuesday, Kotench Bhata Rawalpindi and Kaliam Awan Village Gujar Khan on Wednesday, Police Foundation Colony Rawat and Government Boys College Satellite Town on Thursday, Mandara Bazaar and Jhawara Picket Dhamial on Friday and Bisali Village and Government Sarwar Shaheed College Gujar Khan on Saturday.

While on Sunday, special rickshaw tests will be conducted at the old Varan depot. The mobile police service will be available at its designated points from 9am to 4pm.
