TOBA TEK SINGH: The Faisalabad FIA arrested on Saturday three proclaimed offenders involved in human trafficking and visa fraud cases.

An FIA official told Dawn that the agency raided Faisalabad and Sargodha and arrested Mohsin Raza, Iftikhar and Hayat. They had extorted more than Rs4m from 22 citizens to send them to Italy, UAE, Iran and Iraq on job visas.

Meanwhile, the FIA, in collaboration with the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) Lahore, and the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment (BEOE), jointly organised an awareness session on Safe and Informed Migration in Mauza Ghokuwal at Faisalabad. Representatives of the Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) and the Punjab Job Placement Centre (PJC) also participated.

Nida Umar, FIA assistant director, highlighted the FIA’s vital role in combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling.

Mariya Sohail, counsellor–MRC Lahore, briefed the participants on legal migration pathways, the importance of verified recruitment agencies and the dangers of irregular migration.

UAF: Four thousand students of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) under the supervision of experts in collaboration with Punjab Agriculture Extension Department are off to agricultural fields of six divisions of Punjab.

During the nine-day wheat campaign meant to increase per acre productivity by two to three maunds, the students will visit farmers’ fields to get first-hand knowledge of agricultural issues and give recommendations.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali said it was a flagship initiative in collaboration with Agriculture Extension Department Punjab. He urged the students to work in the field with patience and will learn things from the field.

Director General Agriculture Extension Abdul Hameed, DG Pest Warning Dr Amer Rasul, Director Extension Faisalabad Khalid Mehmood and Prof Dr Ghulam Murtaza also spoke.

SUICIDE: A youth, identified as Muhammad Sharif, who had allegedly murdered his father a few days ago over property dispute in Chak 91-JB, Gojra, died by alleged suicide.

A CCD official told that its team was on its way to arrest a proclaimed offender when it confronted the suspect who, seeing the police van, hid in a government building where he killed himself with a shot in his head.
