ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) has issued a performance report claiming that it has been taking all possible steps to bring transparency within the organisation and address the issue of the consumers through technological advancements.

The company’s chairman, Dr Tahir Masood in a statement claimed that the Iesco introduced several initiatives that had promoted transparency in office operations and made it possible for consumers to receive high-quality and timely electronic services.

“Customer Facilitation Centres have been established at the division and sub-division levels, where consumers can access all services under one roof including bill correction, complaint registration, bills installments, extension in due date and other facilities.

Installation of international standards Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is underway in Rawalpindi City and Rawalpindi Cantt Circles which is a revolutionary initiative in power sector of Pakistan,” he claimed.

AMI meters are smart meters that use a digital system to automatically collect and transmit real-time energy consumption data to the company.

“Furthermore, through the ‘Apna Meter Apni Reading’ mobile application, consumers have been made part of the billing process, allowing them to record their meter readings within the prescribed time, which will likely eliminate doubts and discrepancies related to meter readings,” Dr. Masood said.

“An online tracking system has also been introduced for new connections and complaint registrations, enabling customers to track the progress of their applications in real time,” he said.

He claimed that the Digital Record Management System has strengthened Iesco’s internal accountability mechanism.

Additionally, the supply of transformers, meters, poles, and other essential field materials has been ensured in the store system.

Moreover. Iesco teams in October inspected over 94,000 electricity meters, out of which 142 were found with direct electricity usage and 16 were found tampered with.

Total 158 electricity thieves were fined more than Rs13.6 million and 42 individuals were arrested by the police for their involvement in unethical act, claimed spokesperson of company.

Chief Executive Iesco Engineer Ch. Khalid Mahmood has stated that electricity theft was

not only a major obstacle to Pakistan’s progress and prosperity but also a burden on honest consumers who pay

their electricity bills regularly and the situation will not be tolerated at any cost.
