TOBA TEK SINGH: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), in collaboration with the Punjab Agriculture Extension Department, is launching a nine-day wheat campaign for disseminating experts’ recommendations to farmers in six divisions of Punjab.

UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali has constituted university committees, whereas Agriculture Dean Prof Dr Ghulam Murtaza is the focal person of the campaign. During the campaign, from Nov 8 to 16, thousands of students will visit farmers to disseminate the recommendations across the province.

A press release said that students of BS (5th and 7th semester) and postgraduate (1st to 3rd) semesters of the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Agri Engr & Tech and Faculty of Animal Husbandry will visit rural areas in Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sargodha and Sahiwal divisions under the supervision of experts to disseminate their recommendations in order to increase per acre productivity.

Dr Zulfiqar said that the campaign would also help the students get first-hand knowledge of farming community problems. He said that in the drive, they would persuade farmers to use the latest practices, certified seeds and balanced usage of fertiliser. He said that like the previous years, the university was committed to reaching out to the farming community for the purpose.

Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahu had directed concerned officials of his department to ensure foolproof arrangements for the campaign.

RAPE ACCUSED HELD: Police claimed to have arrested a van driver along with an accomplice for allegedly raping a university student in Faisalabad.

In the FIR registered by the Faisalabad Saddar police, the complainant from Jaranwala claimed that the van driver in whose vehicle his daughter, a BS student, had been going to the university in Faisalabad, once used her phone to call another student and hacked her phone.

He claimed that the accused started blackmailing her by telling her that he had downloaded her pictures from the phone and threatened to post her pictures on social media.

He claimed the driver took golden ornaments worth more than Rs2 million from her, but continued blackmailing her. He claimed that the driver asked her to come to the university parking and there, he forcibly raped her.

Police spokesperson claimed that the alleged rapist along with an accomplice had been arrested, while raids were underway to arrest another accomplice.

ARRESTED FOR MURDER: The Gojra Nawan Lahore police arrested a woman on Thursday for allegedly murdering her husband in Chak 335-JB.

Police said deceased Fayaz Maseeh was found dead in his house on Wednesday. Police claimed that his wife Yasmin Maseeh was arrested on suspicion when she changed her statement multiple times during the investigation.

Police claimed the accused, after further interrogation, confessed to killing her husband with the help of her paramour Tanweer Kaku after Fayaz saw them in a compromising condition.

Police claimed that she and Tanweer Kaku axed Fayaz to death. Police were conducting raids to arrest her accomplice.

Meanwhile, a girl was kidnapped in Gojra. In his complaint, her father shafqat Ali informed the Gojra Saddar police that his daughter Anita Bibi was returning home after buying medicine from a private clinic on Painsara Road when accused Adnan and his accomplices abducted her away in their car.

ACCIDENT: Former provincial minister and current independent candidate for PP98 Chak Jhumra, Faisalabad by-election Haji Muhammad Ajmal Cheema and his two supporters were injured after their car overturned after its tyre burst near Chak 192 RB Rasool Nagar on Thursday. He along with two others passengers were admitted to a private hospital in Samanabad area of Faisalabad.

Meanwhile, five car passengers of the same family were critically injured after their car collided with a divider on the Okara Road near Samundri Motorway interchange at Faisalabad on Thursday.

Rescue 1122 said the accident took place due to speeding.

All of the injured were shifted to the Samundri THQ Hospital and were identified as Shabbir (45), his brother Munir (60), Saddam Munir (32), his wife Saima Saddam (25) and daughter Kanza Saddam (5). They belonged to Gojra Chak 417JB and were on their way to Okara.
