BAJAUR: The district administration on Tuesday allowed people of two areas of Nawagai tehsil to return to their homes after the authorities cleared them of terrorists.

“The effective action of the security forces has cleared of militants the Kootki and Sharif Khan areas of Charmang Valley and residents could now return to their homes,” a statement issued from the deputy commissioner’s office said. PTI MPA Dr Hamidur Rehman also confirmed the development in a social media post on Tuesday, saying efforts were underway to allow residents of other areas to return home soon.

TRADER SHOT DEAD: A trader was shot dead by unknown assailants in Falang area of Khar tehsil on Monday night, police and local residents said on Tuesday.

A police official quoting local residents as saying that Abdul Qayum was heading home with his father on a motorcycle from Khar Bazaar when unknown motorcyclists opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured. He said a police team shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital. However, the 27-year-old succumbed to his injuries.

The official said the deceased’s father, Mohammad Rooz Khan, remained unharmed in the attack.

He said that an investigation was launched into the incident after the registration of an FIR against the unknown assailants on the complained of the deceased’s father. The complainant said they had no dispute with anyone in the area.
