KARACHI, June 2: The Police on Friday arrested three personal staff members of the DIG Establishment, Akhtar Memon, for using the chief minister’s computer-generated letterhead, bearing his signatures, for issuing transfer and posting orders of policemen.

Sources in the investigation police said that the Chief Minister, Ghulam Arbab Rahim, suspecting some mischief, assigned an inquiry to the IGP Sindh, which was in-turn assigned to the Investigation Wing of the police.

On Friday, an FIR 139/2006 was lodged at the Mithadar police station following the arrest of Muhammad Naeem, Personal Assistant of the DIG Establishment, Amjad, Assistant to PA, and Head Constable Muhammad Rafiq.

Two suspects identified as Dhani Bux Soomro, Haider Abro are absconding

in the case, sources said.

Sources said that six policemen who were beneficiaries of the scam have become witnesses in the case.

They were posted in the police lines, but bribing their way through, they were posted in the traffic department.

All the stationery of the DIG Establishment office has also been taken into custody.

The accurate number of such transfer postings are being investigated and would stand cancelled, said a senior official of the Investigation Wing.
