Charges against ex-minster framed

SHIKARPUR, Feb 7: In pursuance of the order of the Sindh High Court, Sukkur circuit bench, the New Faujdari police, Shikarpur, have submitted the challan in the case against ex-Sindh minister for food Maqbool Ahmed Shaikh, sub-inspector Shajeel Ahmed Mangi, ASI Sultan Ahmed Mangi and others under section 17/3 of the Enforcement of Hudood Ordinance and sections 324, 342, 147, 148, 149 PPC and 13- D of the Arms Ordinance here on Wednesday.

This order was passed by the Sindh High Court, Sukkur circuit bench, on a constitutional petition filed by Zulfiqar Ali Langah, former SHO of Lakhi Ghulam Shah.

Zulfiqar Ali Langah had got the FIR lodged against Maqbool Ahmed Shaikh and others at New Faujdari police station, Shikarpur, on Aug 20, 1997.

The petitioner said that on behest of former Sindh chief minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi, the police had disposed off the case when Maqbool Ahmed Shaikh was the food minister in the cabinet of Mr Jatoi.

DACOIT HELD: A notorious dacoit identified as Ranjhan Katto was injured and arrested following an encounter when he along with his other accomplices was attempting to rob trucks near Sultankot on the National Highway on Tuesday night.

The other dacoits fled away from the scene of firing.

The police have registered the case, while the arrested dacoit was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Shikarpur.

POLICE REFORMS: The AIG police, Sukkur region, Nayar Hasnain, has expressed the hope that the police reforms would prove helpful in maintaining law and order and protecting life, honour and property of the people.

Speaking at a press conference at DPO office here on Wednesday, he said that the police personnel would be provided required facilities to solve their problems.
