LAHORE: An Additional District and Session Court in Multan on Thursday granted bail to a professor of the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Department of Forestry and Range Management, in a rape case.

The professor was arrested by the Multan DHA police after registering a rape case on the complaint of a female assistant professor of the same department.

The professor was also removed from the post of the department’s chairman and later suspended from service by the BZU administration after registration of the rape case against him.

Police presented the suspect before the court after completion of judicial remand and sought further remand.

However, Additional District and Sessions Judge Haider Ali Khan, after hearing the arguments, rejected the police’s request for further remand of the suspect and ordered his release on bail.
