One killed, 24 hurt in accident

VEHARI, Feb 7: A man was killed while 24 others sustained injuries in an accident on the Multan-Bahawalnagar Road here on Wednesday night.

Reports revealed the Bahawalnagar-bound wagon (MIA-1975) overturned near Garahmore stop reportedly due to dislocation of tie-rod. Muhammad Ramzan died on the spot while 24 injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

Those injured were Ashfaq Ahmad, Khan Muhammad, Zawar Husain, Muhammad Husain, Muhammad Zahid, Muhammad Yamin, Abdul Hameed, Ismail, Muhammad Imran, Mubarak bibi, Razia, Mai, Suriya, Bashiran, Shamim and Zeenat.

The bus crew managed to flee.

ELECTED: The annual elections for the office-bearers of the local Akhbar Farosh Union were held here on Thursday.

Shaikh Muhammad Sarwar was elected president while Maqbool Ahmad Chaudhry secretary-general.

Ghulam Muhammad Dhaki and Idrees Bhatti were elected vice-president, Chaudhry Maqsood Ahmad additional secretary and Haji Khalid Siddique chairman of the union.

ARRESTED: A local police team on Thursday claimed to have arrested seven peddlers with four kilograms of hashish and 175 bottles of liquor.

Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Team arrested Muhammad Aslam, Abdul Jabbar, Dhudi Muhammad Shaukat, Alamgir, Muhammad Yasin, Muhammad Akbar and Abdul Ghafoor.

Meanwhile, another team claimed to have arrested a proclaimed offender and recovered valuables worth Rs3.2 million, a press release stated on Thursday. Around 181 court absconders were also arrested with booty during the last month.
