BAHAWALNAGAR: A young motorcyclist, who used to harass women on a daily basis in different parts of the city, was accidentally shot at and injured when he fired at a police team while trying to escape during a chase here on Thursday.

As per Minchinabad police, suspect Khizar Hayat of Usmanpura locality would often ride a motorcycle to Tariq Colony and harass women and girls there before fleeing.

On Oct 1, the man was harassing women in Tariq Colony when some locals called 15. Upon the arrival of police, he fled on a motorcycle towards the outskirts of the city.

The police continued to chase him and when the personnel tried to arrest him near the Fordowah Canal, he allegedly opened fire on the team. However, according to the police, the bullets fired by the suspect accidentally hit him, causing him to fall and get arrested.

Minchinabad police said the suspect was admitted to the THQ Hospital in an injured condition and a case registered against him under sections 186, 324, 353, and 354 of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Punjab Armed Amendment Ordinance.

SUICIDE: A teenager ended his life by swallowing poisonous pills after being scolded by his elder brother in Bahawalnagar here on Thursday.

Locals said 18-year-old Shahzad, a labourer by profession, and a resident of Mohallah Shehzadnagar, wanted to exchange his old mobile phone for a new one, but his elder brother forbade him from buying a new gadget, calling it a waste of money.

On the day of the incident, Shahzad’s elder brother scolded him, which angered Shahzad and led him to swallow poisonous pills.They said Shahzad was immediately taken to the hospital, but he died on the way.
