HYDERABAD, Feb 7: The Sindh government has amended the West Pakistan National Calamities (Prevention and Relief Rules 1969).

According to a notification issued by the relief department, Government of Sindh, the word Sindh shall be used throughout the rules for the word West Pakistan, Executive District Officer (revenue) for Commissioners of Divisions, and the word District Coordinating Officer shall be used for the word Deputy Commissioner.

In Rule (2), clause (c), the local areas shall have the same meaning as assigned to it under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2001.

In Rule (6), Sub-Rule (2), for the word “a municipality”, the word “a local area” and for the word “the municipal committees”, the word “the local government concerned” should be substituted.

In Rule (8), for the word “Tehsildar” the word “Mukhtiarkar” and for the words “Union Committee, Town Committee, Union Council or District Council” the word “Local Government concerned” shall be substituted.

In Rule (9), for the word “District Council”, the word “Local Government concerned” and for the word “Tehsil”, the word “Taluka” shall be substituted.

In Rule (10), for the word “Lahore”, the word “concerned” shall be substituted.

SRTC: The former employees of the Sindh Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) called off their hunger strike on the seventh day here on Thursday.

The employees had been agitating against the non-payment of their outstanding dues.

The employees called off their strike after they were assured by Syed Hussain Shah Bukhari, a special representative of Zila Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, that they would be paid their outstanding dues, including mark up, before Eidul Azha.

The former SRTC employees were told that the governor of Sindh had appointed a committee, headed by the Sindh transport minister, to find out ways and means to clear the dues of the employees without any delay.
