Pakistan fall to Paraguay

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Davis Cup hopes ended on Sunday as they lost to Paraguay 3-1 in their World Group II tie on Sunday.

Huzaifa Abdul Rehman, 22, pushed Alex Santino Nunez to three sets in the opening rubber, losing 6-1, 7-5, 6-4. Muzammil Murtaza then fell 6-0, 6-2 to Daniel Vallejo, putting Pakistan down 0-2.

The Paraguayan duo of Vallejo and Martin Antonio Vergara clinched the tie by coming from behind to defeat Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the doubles.

In a reverse singles match after the tie was decided, Huzaifa earned a consolation victory for Pakistan, defeating Vergara 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
