SARGODHA: Given the rising floodwaters in the river Chenab near Kot Momin, the government rescue teams moved 2,500 people and 1,700 cattle heads to safe places, further intensifying the relief and rescue operations on Thursday.

As per officials, the operations were intensified as water level in the Chenab reached 600,000 cusecs and floodwaters entered villages near Kot Momin.

The Sargodha district administration says that at 6am on Thursday, the water flow at Qadirabad was recorded at 1017,000 cusecs and a surge of 100,000 cusecs is likely to pass through Kot Momin.

The officials say that all arrangements to deal with the emerging situation have been made by the administration. They hope that the thrust of water flow would decrease after passing through Qadirabad.

They say that Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Waseem and DPO Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf have been present in the affected areas for the last 24 hours, where relief camps have beenactivated.

They say that the Pakistan Army troops are also on standby to meet any flood emergency in the district .

Meanwhile, the DC has ordered cancellation of leaves of all government officials in the district given the flood situation. However, the officials on maternity, medical, study or foreign leave are exempted. The doctors and paramedical staff posted in government facilities have especially been told to remain present.
