KARACHI: Another policeman was martyred in the Pipri area on Wednesday evening in what police suspected as a targeted attack.

Bin Qasim SHO Faisal Rafiq said Head Constable Mithro Khan was riding a motorcycle when assailants, also riding a two-wheeler, intercepted and opened fire on him near Sindhi Goth and rode away.

He sustained critical bullet wounds and died on the spot, the SHO said, adding that he was in police uniform.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

The slain policeman was posted at the Shah Latif Town police station.

The SHO said it appeared to be a targeted killing incident and investigations were underway to ascertain the exact motive.

This was the second targeted killing incident involving police in Malir district in a less than two weeks.

On August 18, Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammed Khan Abro was shot dead by armed motorcyclists when he got off his car outside his home in the same Bin Qasim area.
