HYDERABDAD: The Awami Tehreek (AT) has rejected the idea of more provinces to be created on administrative consideration.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, AT President Vasand Thari, Senior Vice President Noor Ahmed Katiar and other leaders said: “A solution to administrative issues lies not in the creation of new provinces, but implementation of the 1940 Resolution”.
They said that the resolution should have been spirit of the country’s Constitution but “unfortunately dictators and so-called democratic rulers turned Pakistan into a prison for oppressed nations”.
They observed that establishment, with the help of global imperialist powers, held hostage the democratic and secular vision of the Quaid-i-Azam. They recalled that ‘One Unit’ was imposed to capture resources of the nation.
Suggests implementation of 1940 Resolution to resolve administrative issues
Pakistan has always remained under dictatorial rule directly or indirectly, they claimed, and said that instead of punishing those who dismembered the country in 1971, the same elements were brought in power.
They noted that the federal government was again running a campaign for new provinces. The federal economic committee, whose job is to recommend economic measures alone, is campaigning for a dozen new provinces and administrative units.
The AT leaders said that Sindhis had joined Pakistan under the 1940 Resolution and that they did not subscribe to (Indian National) Congress’s policy that had envisaged a strong federation.
They alleged that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was once again siding with anti-democratic forces.
They said that the federal government did realise that it was incompetent and that was why it wanted to create new provinces to deal with administrative matters.
Instead of creating new provinces, the federal government should surrender powers, they stressed. They said Sindhis had not struggled against the British rule to become subservient to dictators.
Sindhis would not tolerate any attack on its land, they warned.
They said the campaign for new provinces should be stopped and action should be taken under Article 6 of the Constitution against the anti-national forces running this campaign.
