TAXILA: A women’s handicraft exhibition in Attock showcased the skills and creativity of local women artisans on Tuesday, promoting their work on a public platform.
Organised under the banner of “Akadmi Adabiat Campbellpur Attock”, the event took place at the Municipal Committee Hall, Attock.
A large number of women participated in the exhibition, setting up stalls featuring a variety of handicrafts. The event was formally inaugurated by Nabila Shaheen, Principal of Bahria Foundation Attock and Vice President of the Women Chamber of Commerce Attock, along with Shehzad Niaz Khokhar, Deputy Director Information Attock and Ahmad Ali Saqib, President of Akadmi Adabiat Campbellpur Attock.
Prominent attendees included Syed Munees Raza, Vice President of the organisation, General Secretary Tahir Aseer, Joint Secretary Professor Nusrat Bukhari, Finance Secretary Hussain Amjad and Cantt Board Attock Councillor Syed Mehdi Naqvi.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief guest lauded the initiative, calling it an important step towards women’s empowerment. He stressed the need to hold such events frequently to encourage and support women artisans.
President of Akadmi Adabiat Campbellpur Attock, Ahmad Ali Saqib, said that the women of Attock are highly talented and their craftsmanship deserves recognition and encouragement.
“This exhibition is just the first drop of rain,” he remarked, adding that similar events should be organised at least twice a year with government support.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director of Information Shehzad Niaz Khokhar termed the exhibition a success and assured full support from the district government for future initiatives of this nature.
Two killed in Jand road accident
Two persons were killed and seven others injured in two road accidents on the Rawalpindi-Kohat Highway in Jand town of Attock on Tuesday.
According to police and rescue officials, a collision occurred between a passenger van and a tractor near Khanda Chowk, leaving a man dead on the spot and five others, including a woman, injured. Rescue 1122 dispatched two ambulances to the scene and shifted the injured to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Fatehjang.
However, the injured woman, identified as 30-year-old Asia, succumbed to her injuries during treatment. The other deceased was identified as 40-year-old Gul Nawaz.
In another incident on the same highway near Gagan Morr, a car collided with a motorcycle, resulting in injuries to three people. Rescue teams provided first aid to the victims before transferring them to a nearby hospital.
