SAHIWAL, May 23: The city police on Tuesday declared 16 MMA activists, four of them MNAs, proclaimed offenders after they went into hiding in the wake of cases registered against them for delivering provocative speeches during a rally against the president’s uniform.

The city police had registered cases against 48 people under sections 16-MPO, 188-PPC and the amplifier act. They were part of the protest rally held on Jan 1.

Those declared POs by the city police included NA opposition leader and MMA secretary-general Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Maulana Gul Rehman, Maulana Abul Khair, Mufti Muhammad Usman, Maulana Abdul Razzaq Mujahid, Qari Tahir Rashidi, Qari Saeed Ahmad, Maulana Abdul Fateh, Sheikh Saeed Ahmad and Shaheed Ahmad.

The police are conducting raids for their arrest.

PERISH: Two labourers were killed and three others injured when a sand-laden tractor-trolley overturned near Nama Sial village.

Reports said the tractor-trolley was returning home when it overturned as a result of which Faiz and Akbar died and Allah Bakhsh, Noor Muhammad and Zulfiqar injured.
