LAHORE: Emerson University Multan (EUM) Vice Chancellor tendered his resignation on Thursday citing personal reasons.

Prof Dr Muhammad Ramzan was appointed VC on Sept 10, 2022 for a period of four years.

The resignation was formally submitted in a letter addressed to the Chancellor/ Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan. The letter available with Dawn states, “My personal matters do not allow me to continue my service.”

In last week’s syndicate meeting, PML-N MPA Osama Afzal had levelled allegation of recruitment against merit.

He stated that top candidates were ignored and favourites were recruited. He pointed out that three siblings were recruited as teachers who had Mphil qualification while PhDs were ignored.

He alleged that the VC had changed the rules to recruit his favourites.

However, Dr Ramzan denied the charges during the Syndicate meeting and also offered to resign from the post. “I will resign from my post until the investigation is completed,” the VC stated in the meeting.

Punjab Minister for Higher and School Education Rana Sikander Hayat has already ordered a high level committee under the leadership of Higher Education Department (HED) Secretary to probe the matter and submit its report.
