RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Inspector General of Police has sought lists of foot constables to be transferred from districts across the province to the newly formed Riot Management Police (RMP) against 2,475 posts.

The Punjab government has established Pakistan’s first Riot Management Police (RMP), a dedicated unit within the Punjab Police to handle civil unrest and protect public and government assets.

The force aims to safeguard lives, property, and infrastructure during riots, protests, and unlawful assemblies across Punjab.

The RMP will be headed by an Additional Inspector General of Police under the supervision of the Punjab IGP.

The Riot Management Police was approved by the provincial cabinet and trained at the Police Training Centre in Farooqabad. A batch of 3,000 personnel has already completed training and will be deployed at the regional headquarters.

In a letter to the Additional Inspector General of Police (RMP), the IGP sent a communiqué seeking lists of FCs to be transferred from districts to the RMP against the newly created posts and those shifted from districts to the RMP.

The AIG (RMP) was directed to send the details of FCs within three days.

The IGP has approved the redistribution of 1,986 newly created seats of the RMP and 2,475 posts of foot constables shifted from districts.

According to the plan, 1,189 FCs will serve in the RMP, while 1,286 FCs will draw salaries from the RMP but serve in districts under CCPOs, CPOs and DPOs.
