SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Three security personnel got injuries on Sunday as terrorists opened fire on a bomb disposal unit in the Ladha tehsil of Upper South Waziristan district.

According to security officials, the injured personnel were shifted to a nearby hospital.

The officials said security forces retaliated forcing the assailants to flee. Soon after the incident, the area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched to track down the perpetrators.

Local residents reported that heavy gunfire triggered panic in the area, forcing many people to remain confined to their homes amid an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.

It is pertinent to mention here that terrorist activities in various parts of Upper South Waziristan have witnessed a significant surge over the past year. While residents have expressed grave concern over the growing incidents, attacks on security convoys and checkposts have also intensified.

Terrorists often use civilian populations as cover to target police and security checkposts. The residents have urged the government and security forces to take decisive and coordinated action against terrorists.
