BAJAUR: More than 2,000 families, displaced from Lowi Mamund and War Mamund tehsils of Bajaur tribal district owing to targeted operation against terrorists, have been registered during the last three days.

The additional deputy commissioner, Saeedullah Jan, told Dawn that around 2,000 families of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) from the two operation-affected tehsils had been registered since beginning of the process on Friday.

Mr Jan, who is supervising the overall arrangements of TDPs, said that registration process was being conducted at the centre established for the purpose at Utmankhel Complex in Qazafi, having 10 counters and five mobile verification units.

He said that the initiative, a joint venture of Nadra and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), was meant to provide a financial package of Rs75,000 to each displaced family. He said that presently there was only one registration centre, but the number was likely to be increased to least three in different areas of Khar tehsil.

Security forces continue to target hideouts of terrorists

The official said that under the package, each family would receive Rs50,000 for their arrival and Rs25,000 for transportation to facilitate their return. He said that the amount would be paid online to displaced people.

He said that TDPs were accommodated in 274 educational institutions, seminaries and Bajaur Sports Complex. He said that some of the displaced families were living with their relatives.

He said that three-time meal, cold water, ice and two-time tea were being provided to displaced people on regular basis.

Meanwhile, local religious leaders on Sunday handed over 21 buildings of seminaries to TDPs in Khar tehsil for their accommodation.

The decision was made in a meeting that was attended by scores of religious leaders and administrators of seminaries.

Meanwhile, security forces continued anti-terrorists “Operation Sar Bakaf” on Sunday.

The fresh offensive in 26 areas of both Lowi Mamund and War Mamund tehsils was kicked off just an hour after district administration imposed a six-day curfew there on Saturday’s at 4pm.

Official sources said that security forces backed by artillery and gunship helicopters targeted hideouts of terrorists in Malangi, Sapary, Dawowgi, Mena Sulmankhel, Khoorchai, Zagai, Gat, Agra, Gondai, Zari, Nakhtar, Mula Kallay Bakaroo, Gohati, Chimialoo, Lar Kalan, Bar Kalan, Gaman Shah, Choohtra, Damadola, Sultan Baig, Inam Khoro Chinagi and Agra areas.
