KARACHI, May 18: Promising Atiq Latif Bux continued his giant killing act when he sent third seed Abu Saim packing 7-6 to storm into semifinals of the Pakistan Cue Masters at the Karachi Club on Thursday.

Atiq, the 11th seed, who toppled sixth seed Naveen Perwani in the first round exhibited yet another fine all round performance against a better ranked player.

Joining Atiq in the last four were top seed Khurram Agha, second seed Imran Shehzad and fifth seed Sohail Shehzad.

After being tied 2-2 in the best of four frames snooker, Atiq enhanced his lead to 4-2 by grabbing both the billiards frames and then rounded off the match claiming three pool frames.

Final scores were 58-49, 53-67, 74-43, 27-73, 50-22, 50-45, 3-4.

Country’s best known snooker player Mohammad Yousuf after enjoying 6-5 lead went down 6-7 to reigning national snooker champion, Khurram.

The two players were engaged 2-2 in snooker with the former winning opening two frames 60-24, 61-47 and the latter picking up the following 64-20, 67-45.

Khurram surged ahead 4-2 pocketing two billiards frames 51-43, 50-2.

Yousuf neutralised the score 4-4 winning two pool frames before his opponent going 5-4 up.

The former world champion grabbed two more frames to take 6-5 lead. Never say die Khurram won the sixth and seventh frames to seal the fate.

Imran, the national billiards and pool champion two years back, was home against Rambel 7-6 the scores being 20-75, 65-12, 59-11, 46-73, 29-52, 21-51, 5-2.

Sohail got the better of Salman Shaikh 7-3 with ease. The latter reached the last eight by virtue of a walk over against Saleh Mohammad.

Sohail won the battle 87-23, 62-27, 59-38, 66-25, 44-52, 14-52, 3-1.
