KARACHI, May 17: Pakistan's young pace bowler Umar Gul said on Wednesday he hoped to get a one-month stint with English county Glamorgan.

The 22-year-old Umar said he would play for Glamorgan if the deal is negotiated successfully and he gets Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) clearance.

“I have been approached by Glamorgan for this season and if I get permission from the PCB) then I would be delighted to play in the English season,” Umar said.

Umar burst onto the scene two years ago with a five wicket haul against India, which helped Pakistan beat their arch rivals in Lahore.

Back trouble sidelined him for 18 months, then he lost his place to Pakistan’s latest bowling sensation Mohammed Asif.

“I spoke to Bob Woolmer who has suggested that I play for one month for the county and join the Pakistan team if I am required for the England tour,” Umar said.

Asif, fast bowler Rana Navedul Hasan and leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed are also playing in the English county season.—Agencies
