LAHORE: Khalid Mahmood, secretary general of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), has been elected to the Asian Boxing Board of Directors for South Asia, defeating India’s Ajay Singh in a vote held in Bangkok on Saturday.

Khalid secured 18 votes against nine for Singh during the election at the inaugural Asian Boxing Congress, Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) president Lt Col retired Nasir Tung said .

“This is a significant development for Pakistan’s sports diplomacy,” Nasir stated, confirming Khalid’s victory.

Khalid, who was elected PBF president last year but later resigned from that post, will now serve on the regional boxing board.

Nasir added that Pakistan’s inclusion on the board “is expected to open new avenues for regional collaboration and development within the sport,” further elevating the country’s standing in international boxing forums.
