GUJRANWALA, May 17: Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat has said two years’ imprisonment for lodging false FIR was being increased while legal inspectors be posted at every police station to ensure registration of FIR on the basis of facts.

He was speaking at a seminar on police reforms here on Wednesday.

Mr Basharat claimed that the chief minister was providing billions of rupees for police reforms to provide justice to the masses.

He said patrol posts have been set up at a cost of Rs7 billion while Rs4 billion were allocated for police welfare and Rs15,000 allowance be given to each SHO.

He said a DSP or ASP would be deployed at urban police stations to check the performance of police officials while SHOs would have to undergo for six months training and refresher course to improve their efficiency.

He said 225 centres were being set up in the province from where FIRs would be sent to the DPOs concerned for perusal regularly. More police stations would be established after detailed survey where it needed, he added.

He said an independent prosecution service has been started in each police station by the order of chief minister.

DIG Zafar Abas Lak, DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq and other senior officers were present.

DRUGS SUPPLY: A constable and a woman were caught red-handed by jail authorities when they were supplying drugs to the prisoners on Wednesday.

Superintendent Mian Shaukat Ali raided the jail on receiving information that the jail officials through a woman were providing inmates hashish and opium.

Both the accused, Luqman Haider and Irshad Bibi, were handed over to the Satellite Town police. — Correspondent
