SAHIWAL, May 17: Windstorm with a velocity of 125km an hour wreaked havoc on the district, leaving three people dead and public property in a shambles.
According to reports, three people were killed and at least 10 others injured when they were trapped in debris of houses. At Thatha Purbana village, Sultan, Waqar Ahmad and minor girl Khairan were killed when the roofs of their houses caved in.
Among the injured were Sameena, 18, Farah Naseem, 35, Kubran, 30, and Asim, 28, who were admitted to the hospital.
Roofs of several houses were blown up. Many trees were uprooted and various areas of the district plunged into darkness. Telephone connections, too, were severed.
A tree fell on the Noorshah-Faisalabad road and threw the traffic out of gear for four hours.
TOBA TEK SINGH: Fire broke out at four places due to heavy windstorm which lashed the district on Tuesday night which also caused heavy loss to mango orchards in the area.
The fire incidents were reported at Muhammadpura locality, besides Chak 347 GB, 319 GB and 328 JB because of the windstorm. Reports said the TMA fire-brigade failed to put out the fire as there was no arrangement for filling water in the fire-engines due to power outage in the area.
Firewood and valuables were gutted in the fire. However, no casualty was reported from any place.
Meanwhile, at Pirmahal, a widow, Kausar, and her minor daughter Saadia were injured seriously in Mehr Abad locality when their house wall fell because of the windstorm. They were admitted to a local hospital from where they had to be shifted to Faisalabad Allied Hospital because of their critical condition.
Hundreds of sign boards also gave way to the windstorm in the area.
OKARA: A high-intensity windstorm on Tuesday night disrupted the civic life.
A number of trees were uprooted across the district and power supply was cut off after wires were damaged. Many localities plunged into darkness and the electricity supply could not be restored even after a day.
