LOWER SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Terrorists destroyed an abandoned police checkpost with an improvised explosive device on Saturday evening near Azam Warsak Bazaar in the Birmal tehsil here.

DSP Wana Asghar Ali Shah said no cop was present at the checkpost at the time of the explosion. Following the incident, police cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

Earlier the same morning, heavy gunfire was exchanged between security forces and terrorists in the vicinity. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Over the past year, Lower South Waziristan, Upper South Waziristan, and North Waziristan have witnessed a notable surge in militancy, including IED explosions, targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, and frequent assaults on police and military checkposts.

Local residents and political leaders have urged the government and security forces to take urgent and effective measures to restore peace and ensure the safety of civilians in the region.
