DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) officer was injured after a series of explosions, reportedly triggered by an electrical short circuit, ripped through the Maalkhana in Ejaz Shaheed police lines in the wee hours of Thursday. Three rooms of the storage were damaged.
According to police, the incident occurred in Maalkhana (police storeroom), located adjacent to the office of Bomb Disposal Squad incharge Inayatullah, popularly known as ‘Tiger’.
Initial findings suggest that an electrical short circuit triggered a fire igniting hand grenades stored inside the facility, resulting in multiple explosions.
The powerful blasts caused extensive damage to three rooms, completely destroying one of them. The roof and walls of the BDU incharge’s office also collapsed, leaving Inayatullah injured. He was rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Soon after the incident, DPO Ziauddin Ahmed, Bomb Disposal Squad personnel and Fire Brigade teams reached the scene and launched rescue and firefighting operation.
