Gold Cup boxing from May 28

LAHORE, May 16: The Chief Minister Gold Cup Cadet (15 to 17 years) and Junior boxing championships will be at Atiq Stadium from May 28 to 31. The Punjab Amateur Boxing Association (PABA) will organise the contests.

President of PABA, Abid Hussain, said that around 200 pugilists from all over the country would take part.

Abid said that the events were being held to spot talent at the grassroots level and to groom them for international competitions.

He said that different national, divisional and junior level events would also be held at the grassroot level.

He disclosed that Punjab Chief Minister had granted Rs 500,000 for the contest while the remaining amount to bear the expenditure would be generated on self-help basis.

He said that bouts in cadet event would be held in seven weight categories including 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 57 and 60 kgs while the junior activity from the age group of 17 to 19 years in eight weight classes-- 48 kgs, 51, 54, 57, 60, 64, 69 and 75 kgs.

A committee will verify the ages and all the participating boxers.
