PARIS, May 16: American world number seven Lindsay Davenport has pulled out of the French Open with a back injury. “I haven't recovered the full fitness that would allow me to compete to the best of my ability,” Davenport said.

“I'm working hard to get back on the circuit as quickly as possible.”

Davenport will be replaced by Ukraine's Yuliana Fedak.

Marie Gayanay Mikaelian of Switzerland has also pulled out of the tournament that starts May 28 with an injured right shoulder. She has been replaced by Russian Anastassia Rodionova.

In the men's competition, American Taylor Dent has withdrawn with a back injury, with his place going to Spanaird Fernando Vicente, organisers said.—AFP
