MANSEHRA: Former provincial minister Habibur Rehman Tanoli passed away due to cardiac arrest here on Friday.

He was rushed to a health facility, according to his family members, where doctors pronounced him dead. His funeral prayers will be offered at Government High School, Perhana, at 11am on Saturday (today).

Mr Tanoli was elected as a member of the provincial assembly in the 1988 general elections and later appointed minister for religious affairs. He again won the general election in 1993 and served as the minister for local government.

His daughter, Ghazala Habib, also contested the 2002 general elections held under army ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf, during which Mr Tanoli was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau over alleged illegal appointments in the education department.

He is survived by two sons, Faisal Habib Tanoli and Fahad Habib Tanoli Advocate.
