ISLAMABAD: Over 99 high-tension and 49 low-tension electricity poles fell, and 65 transformers were completely damaged, disrupting power supply to large areas near Chakwal.
However, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) claimed that electricity had been restored in over 80pc of the affected areas.
The recent flash floods badly affected Talagang, Chakwal, Pind Dadan Khan and Dhudial areas.
According to a statement, Iesco Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Naeem Jan, Chief Engineer Operations Syed Kashif Shah, Chief Engineer Zahid Saleem Usmani and other senior officers visited the Dhudial area of Chakwal circle to assess the damage caused to Iesco’s infrastructure due to recent rains and the ongoing power restoration efforts.
Superintendent Engineer Chakwal circle Waheed Abbasi, while briefing the delegation, stated that the distribution system was severely affected by the floods and heavy rainfall. As a result, 99 high-tension poles and 49 low-tension poles fell and 65 transformers were completely damaged.
“Our teams have worked round the clock on an emergency basis, managing to restore electricity in more than 80pc of the affected areas. However, operations are still facing challenges in some areas due to accumulated rainwater and softened ground conditions,” he said.
