QUETTA: The Balochistan chapter of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has announced the new phase of its Enterprise Development Fund (EDF) to support small businesses in the province.

The announcement was made by Samiullah Achakzai, the provincial chief of IOM, in a meeting with leaders and office bearers of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI).

He said enterprises with at least three permanent employees and three years of active operation would be eligible for support. For women-led enterprises, the minimum requirement is two permanent employees.

Businesses must also be bank-certified and operational for at least three years.

Moreover, skilled individuals would receive support of up to Rs500,000.

Additionally, a support of up to Rs5 million is available for businesses involved in livestock, essential infrastructure, mining, construction services and machinery procurement, on the condition that they create employment and expand operations.

The QCCI representatives said due to low literacy rates and strict banking conditions, many people in Balochistan cannot benefit from such initiatives.

They requested support for online application procedures to expand businesses and create job opportunities.
